Job Description

This position is a strategic move to enhance the effectiveness of the e-Learning platform and improve digital literacy skills at VGU. This role will bridge the gap between technical support and pedagogical implementation, ensuring that the platform is not only functional but also utilized optimally.

The duties and responsibilities of Officer for Digital Teaching and Learning include but is not limited to:

1. Pedagogical support:

  • Collaborate with faculty to design effective online courses and learning materials.
  • Guide instructional design principles and best practices for online teaching.
  • Assist in developing engaging and interactive learning activities.
  • Explore new learning tools, and emerge the digital use with new technologies.

2. Platform Training and Support:

  • Conduct regular training sessions on features and functionalities of e-Learning platforms, and academic and learning tools for faculty and students.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Create user-friendly documentation and tutorials.

3. Quality Assurance in terms of Digital Teaching and Learning:

  • Monitor the quality of online courses and learning materials with a proper structure and regular updates.
  • Ensure adherence to institutional standards and guidelines.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of platform usage.

4. Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Plan activities for properly running and upgrading the e-Learning portal and relevant digital tools.
  • Coordinate with faculties, centers, and departments, to ensure seamless integration of e-learning into the overall educational process.
  • Work closely with technical colleagues to address technical issues and optimize platform performance.
  • Foster a collaborative community of practice and digital literacy skills among faculty and students.

Job Requirement

1. Qualification: Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Sciences or proven track of experience is required. 

2.Experience: 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing applications.
  • Proven experience in user support with teaching and learning applications.
  • Good knowledge of WEB operations and online development.
  • Experience in security of server-based and cloud-based applications.
  • Hands on experience in setting up, install and maintain applications.

3.Knowledge: 

  • Good knowledge of process analysis and modeling.
  • Advanced knowledge of application management and development
  • Good knowledge of WEB backend development.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices about manage, control, and monitor applications for administration and WEB.
  • Good knowledge of security standards and communication.
  • Good knowledge of IT infrastructure, operating systems and database management.
  • Instructional design: Understanding of instructional design principles and theories.
  • Online learning strategies: Knowledge of effective online teaching and learning strategies.
  • Assessment and evaluation techniques: Familiarity with various assessment methods, including online assessments.

4. Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in e-learning platforms: Experience with Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of educational technology tools: Familiarity with learning management systems, video conferencing tools, authoring tools, and other relevant technologies.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues. 

5. Behaviours required

  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Ready to work under time pressure and stress.
